Why use PHP?

There are a number of reasons why you might choose to use PHP. Netcraft list it as the most popular module for Apache, itself the most popular web server. As of April 2003 PHP was running on websites for over 12 million internet domains worldwide. It's ease of use compared with competing scripting platforms such as Perl, Python or ASP makes it a favourite amongst developers, whilst the business reasons for it's adoption are compelling with support for almost all popular database management systems.

Another aspect of PHP is that it is free software, in the sense that it can be downloaded without charge from the developers, used at no cost besides your own development and maintenance, and extended if necessary (as the source code is also available).

What is open source system?

Open source software is similar in idea to "free software" but slightly less rigid than the free software movement. Users of open source software are (generally) able to view the source code, alter and re-distribute open source software.

What does it cost to use this system?

It cost you nothing, because it is an open souce web based system.
